Bannock Toaster

This bannock toaster was made for the Ellisland Farm museum. It is a true reproduction of the original item that is held in the Robert Burns Birthplace museum. The bannock toaster was gifted to his wife to be, Jean Armour, for their wedding in 1788. The new bannock toaster is part of the exhibits in the kitchen of the house that they lived in once they were married. Hand forged and riveted mild steel with a brushed and waxed finish. Designed to hang from the front of the fire grate the tray can be moved in and out from the fire to toast the freshly made bannocks(oatcakes).
